Child Centered Sports
Abuse Prevention Seminars |
The concept of Child Centered Sports embraces the philosophy that young participants are the center or focus of a sports activity surrounded and protected by caring and trained adult coaches, administrators, parents and officials. Details of this approach to youth sports are contained in a five-hour seminar designed to provide practical guidance on techniques that identify and prevent abusive behavior toward children during non-school youth sports activities.
The seminar was developed by the Kids Sports Network in consultation with Dr.
Stephen Bavolek, the creator of the Child Centered Coaching concept, Mr. Joseph
Ward, LPC, LMFT, and the Children's Trust Fund of Texas. The seminar is a multi-media
presentation which incorporates video segments, discussions and problem solving.
At the conclusion of the seminar each attendee receives a comprehensive abuse
prevention manual. In seminars specifically directed to youth league administrators,
attendees also receive a video overview of the presentation that they can show
to their respective boards of directors when they return home.
Over 33 seminars were presented throughout Texas under
a contract with the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.
The
contract
has ended due to state funding constraints but KSN continues to offer this
popular seminar to youth oriented associations and school districts interested
in strengthening the shield of protection around their young athletes.
Key Seminar Topics:
